Airport tales

The first, and hopefully only confession, I was 4kg over the baggage limit for British Airways, so will be the same with Singapore unless I can do some fancy repacking tonight. One kilo over they might wave me through but not four.

I was also hauled in for added carry on bag check, and would you believe is was my back pack of souvenir guide books, somehow they looked suspicious. They got tested for narcotics!

Edinburgh is getting pretty busy. I successfully got the £7 tram with 2.5 hours before lift-off, which is delayed as it turns out. I just hope they don’t bump any passengers as they said it was a very full flight. But I did not want to put my lovely new leather and tartan backpack in the luggage hold. It is too new.

I suspect delays here. I wanted to buy a snazzy Scotland themed bag cover but only remembered it here in the airport, where as all the luggage outlets are in the city.

But very successful day. I had 230 death certificates to transcribe, and although I did not find them all, I looked for them all and got maybe 97%. Total victory.

So safely now at Heathrow. What a journey! Arrived to Terminal 5. Mistakenly thought hotel on Airport - HaHaHa, so mistakenly went to Terminal 2&3 by the free airport train. Could have caught bus but my bag was pretty heavy. Elected to get taxi, but handy info desk suggested Uber and so for £50 got return tickets to my hotel. Actually the uber was pretty swishy.

Hotel was lovely. There I repacked and got my case down to 22.7kg. Actually my ticket said 25kg,  and at the bag drop off the screen said 30kg allowed. All that effort. All that packaging of small gifts (you’ll soon see) gone. By the way not enough money on travel card left if they hit me with excess baggage, so I had to be careful. I have £35 I can spend.

Here now with obligatory photo, with 2 hours to my flight. Security again pulled up my backpack of books “a lot of books” said the security officer; yes I thought just next to the bag tag that said ‘Academy travel’. I had to remove my shoes, and my wrist guards (only brought in case I got carpel tunnel, which I didn’t) and I was trying to lighten the case.

Yes
it does look quite empty in that direction. Rest assured it is full everywhere. Gate being announced in one hour so who knows where I will end up.

With time on my hands I will turn to the topic of toilets.

Almost there, at Gate B42 with exactly an hour to go, no more shops, and no time to go back now. It was quite the ride of escalators up and down and travelators. Here is my plane:

And a little reminder of home I passed on the way.
